PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT PROGRAM

The Physical Therapist Assistant Program is a two-year program that is divided into two phases. Phase I consists of a total of 29 credit hours of general education courses including one specialty introductory course (PHT 1004C) which are considered prerequisite courses for admission into Phase II of the PTA Program. Phase II consists of 45 credit hours of technical and clinical education courses.

Phase I, (prerequisite courses) general education phase, may be taken at a student's own pace but completion within a three year period is recommended. Science courses should be completed within five years of application.

* Courses that may substitute for PHI 2600 Ethics are: PHI 1100 Introduction to Logic; HUM 2551 Philosophy and Religion; MUL 1010 Music Appreciation; HUM 2511 Art and Music; AMH 1091 History of the African American.  

** Courses that may substitute for MAC 1105 College Algebra are: MGF 1106 Mathematics for Liberal Arts 1; or other higher math courses.

*** PHT 1004C-Introduction to Physical Therapy is also a Dual Enrollment course and is offered every semester on campus and on Internet. The student will have to take this course immediately after he/she declared PTA as a major. 

PHASE II - TECHNICAL AND CLINICAL EDUCATION COURSES 

Phase II starts immediately after the Spring semester, in the Summer C semester. Phase II is an intensive 13 month program that concludes in June of the following year. The following courses are taken only by students accepted into the technical phase (Phase II) of the PTA program.

Phase II - Total Credit Hours - 45  

Students may be required to commute to area clinical sites and therefore must have dependable transportation. Clinical Practice III does not comply with the four-day school week generally followed for summer sessions. Clinical Practice I, II, and III require that students be at their clinical sites from Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 5:00PM.
