DESCRIPTION OF MATERIALS AND THEIR USE

Course Information contains the syllabus, schedule and reading assignments to help you organize your studies.  Familiarize yourself with the course objectives, attendance policies, grading requirements in the syllabus.  The schedule is tentative and may change, but will act as a guide for when assignments and lab exercises are due.  The reading assignments are to be completed prior to the time the materials are discussed in class (see schedule).

Study Guide Quizzes – You are to have these printed and completed prior to discussion of the materials in class (see schedule).  Each student needs to be prepared to answer the questions in class. Use them as a study guide when reading the text chapters.  You may be asked to submit them at the beginning of class so be prepared.

Class Notes - This section contains the handouts you will need for classroom lectures.  You are to download and print all the items in this section.  You are responsible for reading this material prior to the class meeting on the topic.

Lab Exercises – You are responsible for having them printed in time for use in lab for that specific topic (see schedule).  Not having a lab exercise available will result in a deduction in your grade.  The lab exercises will be completed during lab times (see required materials for each chapter).

Self-Study Materials – You are responsible for learning the materials with self-study.  Some materials require memorization (muscle attachments, bony landmarks, ROM averages).  Some materials are to be learned by practice in the lab (palpation of bony landmarks and muscles, muscle attachment on skeleton).  See Required materials for each chapter.  Hoppenfeld’s text can be helpful (see reading assignments).

PowerPoint (PP) Materials – These are copies of the presentations given in class that you may choose to print for your use.  You have been given copies of Learning Origins and Insertions and Factors that Affect Exercise (see supplementary materials for each chapter).

Practical Form – This is the form to be used for lab practicals.  You may want to make a copy and practice during lab (see general supplemental materials).

Supplemental Materials – These have been generated as additional resources.  They provide practice and information for areas you may have more difficulty understanding.  There are also charts, the PP presentations and the practical form.  Two items (Determine Where in the Program … and In Order to Exercise a Joint) are there to help you put the pieces together (see supplemental materials on specific topics).

WHAT ARE REQUIRED AND SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS PAGE

Required materials fall into four categories:

  • Course information – syllabus, schedule, reading assignments
  • Self-study materials – those you are responsible for learning and practicing
  • Study guide quizzes – there is one for each chapter to be completed prior to class
  • Lab exercises – they are listed under “required” for each class that has them

Supplemental materials are to help you if needed.  You are not required to use them.  They contain additional data about topics to help explain, charts of data and drills and practices.  Some examples of supplemental materials would be:

  • Drills and Practices for indicated topics – to solidify knowledge by practice
  • PowerPoint (PP) presentations – these are copies of presentations given in class
  • Overview guides – to help organize course content
  • Practical Form – form used for lab practical(s)
